How to Rent a House – A Tenant Guide (Part Eight)

Gone are the days of being narrowed down to trawling, inky fingered, through endless newspaper ads seeking your ideal home to rent.  Although it is definitely still worth keeping an eye on the local papers, a more popular and efficient way of searching is of course, online.

With a myriad of property sites such as Rightmove, FindaProperty, Primelocation and Fish4homes on hand, you can hunt for your ideal house to rent from the comfort of your own home.  According to a survey carried out by Primelocation, house hunters rated the internet as their number one method of searching for rental properties.

Primelocation.com has thousands and thousands of properties nationwide listed on its site (abroad too).  Primelocation, Rightmove.co.uk and other online portals offer an email alert service allowing you to be on top of the latest homes for rent as soon as they’re advertised.

Internet based property searches offer you more in depth detail about a property of interest allowing you to see internal and external photos, floor plans, energy efficiency ratings, number and details of rooms, exact location etc.  You can refine your searches allowing you to drill down to your specific criteria without having to sift through irrelevant properties to rent.

Usually after days of scanning you have quite a shortlist and these sites enable you to manage this, otherwise overwhelming, list efficiently.  You can find the most suitable letting agents to register with too.
