How to Rent a House – A Tenant Guide (Part Seven)

The type of property to rent you’re hunting for will depend on your personal stage of life, whether a student, single professional or couple, a family or retired.

Here are some types of rental property to consider.  Which category do you fall into?

A flat or house to rent – the most common option for families where they are the sole tenants in the rental property.

Studio flats to rent – usually a single room used as a bedroom and living room, with separate kitchen and bathroom.

Shared house or flat to let – a single person or couple rent a room in a house or flat also occupied by other people.  Great for a group of student or professional friends.  Shared living room, kitchen and bathroom. The rent is shared between all individuals.

Lodging – a single person or couple rent a room or rooms from a owner occupier who also resides there.

So, now you have narrowed down what type of rental property will suit you the best, how to you go about searching for it.  Online and on foot are two main ways, along with scanning the local papers.

More tips on this in Part Eight.
