Letting Agents guide to the London borough of Lambeth
Lambeth is a diverse borough. Lambeth offers good transport links, reasonably priced property and a vibrant street culture have continued to attract new residents, especially in Brixton and Clapham. The borough is traditionally a poor one, but several regeneration projects and environmental campaigns have seen it begin to change in recent times. Although not well placed for shopping facilities, there are a selection of parks and green areas to enjoy, including Clapham Common, Kennington Park and Streatham Park. Streatham boasts an ice rink and bowling alley, and the Oval Cricket Ground proves popular with enthusiasts. The London Eye, which is situated next to the River Thames, which boasts some of the best views of London.
Lambeth stretches from the plush new riverside developments on the Southbank to the suburban climbs of Streatham and West Norwood deep in South London. To the west lie the well-kept Victorian terraces of Clapham Park and the Georgian town houses of Clapham Old Town, ever popular with the trendy young set and middle class professionals.
The Kennington area remains popular with MP's requiring a second home close to Westminster and young professionals who want to be near to the bright lights of the West End.
The roads off Streatham Common and around Telford Park off Streatham Hill boast the largest and most sought after property. A plentiful supply of conversions and flats for the first time buyer.
Norwood and Crystal Palace sit high up, looking down upon Croydon to the south and the City to the north. Norwood meets Crystal Place where a busy parade of shops can be found alongside a growing number of restaurants and bars all of which lie under the shadow of Southeast London's own Eiffel Tower, the Crystal Place Mast.
In comparison to most of Lambeth, Clapham stands out from the crowd. Good transport links into London, a vibrant supply of shops and restaurants and attractive Victorian and Edwardian property creates an attractive cocktail for those forced to look elsewhere by higher prices north of the river. Clapham old town provides a pleasant mixture of Georgian and Victorian terraces and mews as well as a number of grander white stucco properties around Grafton Square.
The London borough of Lambeth incorporates some 1,967 streets.
